Hey, pay attention to me! I’m fascinating!
I really loved the look of Masquerade Rose‘s steampunk Zatanna cosplay, but I never had the opportunity to shoot it while at summer SacAnime. Still wanting to photograph her cosplay, I arranged for a private shoot with her in the hopes of capturing some really nice photos.
The biggest challenge that I faced was finding a location which would suit a steampunk type of style around the Sacramento area. Most of Sacramento is pretty suburban, so finding a good location was tough. Eventually I stumbled upon the Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg, CA.
Old Sugar Mill started off as an old sugar mill, but is currently being renovated into a wine tasting and production facility to support the growing number of local wineries. It’s good to see the wine business popping up in the Delta region, as the area has been very rural for as long as I could remember. Since Old Sugar Mill is still under renovation, there are still plenty of old 1930’s era buildings in various states of disrepair.
The shoot itself went off without much trouble. Since we were shooting on a Monday, there were not many people milling around or gawking. For assistance with the shoot, I had enlisted my friend Corpus Photography. It was good to have another set of hands as it let us be more mobile as enabled me to grab some nice falling card shots. Many thanks Tony!
Although the shoot was scheduled for 3 hours, it went by very quickly. I wish I had more time, but our time slot was over and the facility was closing up for the day.
A big thanks to Masquerade Rose for modeling and Tony for helping make the shoot a success!
